How to Lose Body Fat

How to lose body fat seems to be a question that many people make in their lifetime. The older you get, the easier it is to gain fat. It seems no one can avoid gaining weight when they get older. The metabolism changes and/or they become less active. They stop growing taller and start growing wider. Although, an answer exists.

However, it is actually a good thing to ask the question "how to lose body fat?" You see that if you don't ask that question, then you're not realizing that there could be a problem when they're actually might be one. The vast majority of us gain fat gradually over our lifetime. It's always helpful to the monitor it somewhat closely.

Fat

Losing body fat really doesn't have to be hard. Actually, most people already know how to lose it. You simply need to eat right and exercise. However, too many times people look at one specific area of their body and only exercise that part. This might help to build up those particular muscles but generally won't reduce as much fat as one would like.

How to Lose Body Fat

The trick to losing fat is to make sure that some of your exercise three or four days a week includes aerobic activity. It definitely is possible to build muscle from lifting weights and still carry a fair amount of fat. True, muscle mass does help to reduce fat because it requires more energy to make it work.

However, if the food and fluids that you eat and drink amount to giving you more energy than what you expend daily, your body will most likely store some of that excess energy in fat. Every day your body uses energy to function whether it is simply moving from one place to another, taking a shower, brushing your hair, walking out to the car, or any one of the other many things you do daily.

Most people don't really continually watch what they eat every day. Therefore, since these people don't have heavy laboring jobs or activities, they will likely gain weight. So therefore, exercise should be one of those activities that you do daily or even better at three or four times a week. You don't want to do it just to reduce fat but also to keep your body healthy. For example, your heart loves aerobic activity.

So what you need to do is a few things in order to implement the answer to the question of "how to lose body fat?" Write down all the foods (and drinks) that you consume daily in a log. This will help to keep track of the energy that you consume. Analyzing this food and drink to understand how much energy you are consuming will help to know how much exercise and activity you need to implement.

Once you know your caloric intake, you'll then have to reduce some of the food that you eat. Use a table that shows the caloric value that your foods have. Most people interested in losing fat will probably reduce their diet by about 500 cal. You will have to find out what is best for you.
Then you need to grab another table to understand how much energy you need to expend weekly. I say weekly because when your exercise, you'll need to only exercise three or four times a week and not necessarily daily. Your muscles need to repair themselves. Therefore, look at a week's worth to make it easier. However, you'll then have to break it down into each day's worth.

Now, with this information you should have a good idea as to how much of an energy deficit you'll need to lose fat. As long as you have an energy deficit, you will gradually lose body fat. When you look at it, the process is rather simple.

One of the main problems people run into is being consistent. Consistency and being persistent will be the key to reaching your goal. Small steps are best. Losing weight fast could throw your body into a defensive mode so a few pounds a week will be good enough.

The answer to the question "how to lose body fat" really is not hard to understand. Staying motivated to continue the whole process likely will be the hardest. However, as long as you use more energy than you take in, you will be well on your way. Various important considerations need to be addressed in this process including eating the right foods, drinking plenty of water, consuming enough protein, and consulting with a doctor given your particular circumstances. However, with this information and a little motivation, your goal is not far from your reach.

Weight Loss Benefit Of Jogging: How To Get Rid Of Love Handles

Use the benefit of jogging exercise to lose love handles

If you are anything like I was many years ago you might describe yourself as 'cuddly' or 'huggable'. Anything to disguise the fact that you're a little overweight and have a few rolls of unsightly fat around your middle. If this is you then you might want to learn the secret of how to get rid of love handles.

\"weight Loss\"

Sorry, there's no secret way to eliminate love handles but I can tell you about how I managed to lose my love handle fat. It didn't happen overnight and I did have to work at it but slowly the fat around my middle and other parts of my body started to melt away and I've managed to stay reasonably lean for many years now.

Weight Loss Benefit Of Jogging: How To Get Rid Of Love Handles

Nutrition and exercise is the key to losing love handles

I didn't know much about nutrition and exercise at the time and I still don't know that much but I did know that you need to do some exercise. Any exercise is better than none right? I also knew that the more calories you eat the more fat accumulates on your body. I've no idea why it all seems to go on around your middle first but it seems to be very common.

The first thing I did was cut down the size of my meals to reduce my calorie intake. This is very difficult to do if you have a low metabolism like I do because you don't have to eat much before you start putting on weight. This means that you probably don't eat much to start with. You can also make adjustments to the things you eat to help you lose fat. For more about nutrition see this article: Food To Help You Lose Weight.

The next step is to introduce some regular exercise. This will burn off some of the calories that you consume allowing you to at least eat something. When you decide what type of exercise you are going to do you should pick something that you'll enjoy doing and can see yourself doing regularly and consistently. That way you'll be able to keep it up for a long time to come.

Jogging to lose weight

I chose to start jogging. I wanted to lose body fat all over but I was most concerned about my love handles. I also knew that I would enjoy jogging in the park along the riverbank. Pleasant surroundings is a definite bonus and incentive to keep going as are the occasions when I happen to meet a girl jogging and swap weight loss notes.

Your weight loss from jogging

Exactly how many calories you'll burn by jogging depends on a number of factors. The heavier you are and the faster you run, the more calories you'll burn. A rule of thumb estimate suggests that jogging for weight loss will burn off roughly 10 calories per minute. You can use this estimate to work out how much jogging you are going to need to do.

The calorie burned jogging in 30-minutes 6 times a week will be roughly 1800 calories a week. Another rough rule of thumb suggests that 1 pound of body fat is equal to 3500 calories. At this rate you should lose about 1 pound of weight every 2 weeks, which is a very slow but healthy way to lose weight. This assumes of course that your weight was stable before you took up the exercise and that you don't eat more than you did before.

It was a slow process but over time it did show me how to get rid of love handles because they eventually disappeared. I still enjoy the jogging to this day and my love handles have never returned.

Fat Burners - What to Look For in a Good Fat Burner

People who are looking to lose a few pounds or just want an energy boost often turn to "fat burners" for help. These products can potentially be beneficial in helping to maximize energy and increasing weight loss. But at what cost? Many people take these products without bothering to check what exactly is in them. This can be a dangerous proposition, especially for people with a history of cardiovascular disease or seizures. Many of you might remember the recent events that led the FDA to ban the popular fat burner ephedra for sale in the United States. Ephedra use has been linked to a high rate of serious side effects including seizure, stroke, heart attack and death. These are side effects that I could safely say most people would like to avoid. So what is somebody who wants to take a fat burner suppose to do? Well for one always talk to your healthcare professional before starting a fat burner supplement, and two use the tips in this article to identify what to look for in a fat burner.

Have you ever turned a bottle of fat burner over and looked at the ingredients in it? Deciphering just what exactly is in the product can be a daunting challenge. You have probably never heard of four out of five of the ingredients in any given fat burner. In fact the most common ingredient found in fat burners, caffeine, might be the only one you recognize. Ma huang, the Chinese name for ephedra, was a common ingredient in many fat burners prior to its ban in 2004. Millions of people took ma huang containing products and just assumed it was safe. After its ban, ephedra was replaced in many products with bitter orange. However, the National Center or Complementary and Alternative Medicine has found that "there is currently little evidence that bitter orange is safer to use than ephedra." Be wary of products that contain several different herbal ingredients that you have never heard of before. You do not want to potentially be taking the next ephedra.

\"Fat Burners\"

There are several ingredients in fat burners that have been used for many years and have a more established safety profile. For example, green tea extract is found in numerous products. Green tea extract is not only a source of caffeine, which by itself has been shown to increase energy and stimulate metabolic rate, but it is also a powerful antioxidant. It has been shown to inhibit an enzyme called amylase which is responsible for breaking down carbohydrates and increasing blood sugar levels. As a result, blood sugar levels are lowered resulting in less fat storage. Additionally, green tea is rich in catechins which have been shown to lower body fat. If that wasn't enough, green tea may also inhibit fatty acid synthase, an enzyme responsible for turning carbohydrates into fat.

Fat Burners - What to Look For in a Good Fat Burner

Apple cider vinegar has been used for thousands of years for a variety of purposes. The exact mechanism by which apple cider vinegar causes weight loss is not known. However, it is believed to be a result of the enzymes and organic acids contained in it. These compounds are believed to suppress your appetite, increase your metabolic rate and reduce water retention.

Grapefruit is believed to help regulate weight loss by its effects on insulin. Researchers speculate that compounds in grapefruit decrease insulin release after a meal. This causes the body to more efficiently utilize food for energy resulting in less fat storage.

Good fat burners should also contain an ingredient that supports thyroid function. The thyroid gland is responsible for setting the body's metabolic rate. Impaired thyroid function will make it nearly impossible to burn fat. Iodine is a vital nutrient which is needed in order to keep the thyroid functioning properly. Kelp is often added to fat burners due to its high iodine content.

Garcinia cambogia is a small purple fruit found in India and Southeast Asia. Its rind is rich in hydroxycitric acid which has been used for centuries by the people of Southeast Asia. Hydroxycitric acid has been shown in animal studies to inhibit lipogenesis. Lipogenesis is the mechanism by which the body converts starches and sugar to fat. As a result, the sugars consumed are converted to glycogen instead and utilized as an energy source. Glycogen production also acts as a signal to the brain that enough food has been consumed resulting in a decrease in appetite. Garcinia cambogia has also been shown to decrease appetite by increasing serotonin levels in the brain. Garcinia cambogia can be found in the popular fat burners Hydroxycut and Ripped Pro.

In conclusion, before purchasing a fat burner take the time to look at what is actually in the product. These products may contain potentially dangerous ingredients so it is worth the little extra time to investigate. As always, speak with your healthcare professional to see if a fat burner is right for you.

Fat Burners - Are They Worth the Money?

Americans spend approximately billion per year on diet-related and weight loss products and programs, says a report by Marketdata, Inc. Moreover, this figure is growing and is expected to reach .7 billion in 2010. The significant amount of funds spent on various components of the diet industry each year is reflective of Americans' growing awareness of, and increasing desperation about, an obesity rate that has reached epidemic proportions in the United States.

In an effort to counter this trend, Americans are turning to the diet industry in record numbers. What the diet industry 'gurus' is increasingly offering to such desperate consumers-and what they are increasingly purchasing-are quick weight loss products that are collectively called, "fat burners."

Fat Burners - Are They Worth the Money?

Utilizing a process called thermogenics, most fat burners contain stimulants (such as caffeine or green tea extract) that are thought to increase the metabolism and burn fat more quickly. These stimulants have also been shown to suppress appetite, a function that makes them particularly desirable to dieters. Unfortunately, the very stimulants that encourage thermogenics and appetite suppression have been shown to cause serious adverse health effects such as heart failure, seizures, and stroke. Despite these well-publicized health risks, however, dieters still use fat burners to "trim down" because many do lose weight while taking these pills.

Or do they?

Analyses of many of the most popular fat burners show that, for most of them, their purported weight loss benefits are not as impressive as their diet ads claim. This is causing many to question whether the weight loss benefits of these diet products are worth the possible health risks.

Common Fat Burners

Ephedra: Ephedra was once one of the most popular fat burners on the market. Before the Food and Drug Administration banned its use as a diet aid in 2003, a reported 12 to 17 million Americans used it regularly for weight loss and improved athletic performance. Ephedra increases the heart rate and the blood pressure, thereby raising the metabolism, which, studies had shown, helped ephedra users lose weightm in the short term. But there had never been any scientific findings that ephedra had helped these individuals to maintain their weight loss.

There had, however, been many scientific studies that showed that ephedra caused side effects such as headache, nausea, insomnia, dehydration, vomiting, seizures, heart attack, stroke-and even death. (The FDA finally banned this component after more than 100 deaths had been linked to the use of products incorporating ephedra.)

Guarana: Often used in sweetened or carbonated drinks, guarana is a rich source of caffeine. Guarana is used in fat burners to help dieters to feel satiated, as well as to increase stamina and physical endurance. However, the safety of guarana in fat burners is questionable. The Journal of Herbal Pharmacotherapy published a report stating that two herbal supplements containing guarana were associated with causing a heart rhythm called premature ventricular contraction. More common side effects of guarana are vomiting, cramps, spasms and difficulty urinating.

Citrus Aurantium: Used in herbal weight loss products, citrus aurantium, often called bitter orange, is considered a safe alternative to ephedra. It contains synephrine, a compound that is similar to epinephrine. To date there have not been any problems associated with ingestion of citrus aurantium; however, synephrine is linked to an increase in both blood pressure and cardiovascular disease.

Cayenne Pepper: The health benefits of cayenne pepper are well documented. Most people do not often associate it with weight loss. But, when taken on a regular basis, cayenne pepper can increase metabolism approximately 25 percent. The main ingredient in cayenne pepper is capsaicin, which also helps burn extra calories. Cayenne pepper itself does not have side effects, but capsaicin is known to produce a number of unpleasant, but essentially harmless symptoms such as coughing, sneezing, or swelling.

Coleus Forskohlii: Coleus originates from the mint family, with the root being used for medicinal purposes. Historically, coleus has been used to treat lung and heart disease, intestinal problems and insomnia. More recently, coleus has been linked to weight loss for its ability to stimulate fat metabolism. A study of six obese women showed that 25mg of coleus two times a day for eight weeks caused a certain amount of weight loss (i.e., the women lost an average of ten pounds as well as 8 percent body fat.) But coleus forskohlii has also been shown to cause side effects such as sore throat, upper respiratory tract irritation, coughing, and restlessness.

Green Tea Extract: A common ingredient in many fat burners, green tea extract has a list of health benefits ranging from relieving headaches to fighting free radicals to lowering cholesterol-to losing weight. While a Japanese study showed that adding five cups of green tea to each day's diet burns 70 to 80 calories, for example, it also showed that continuing this green tea regimen for 43 days resulted in the loss of only one pound.

Hoodia Gordonii: Unlike many of the other popular diet aids, hoodia gordonii is not a stimulant. Rather, it comes from an African plant and has been shown to curb appetite on a neurological level-by sending signals to the brain which in turn halts the signaling of hunger pangs. Hoodia has no known side effects; however, experts say that consuming too much could greatly reduce food intake, which in turn might lead to a lowered metabolism, and eventual weight gain. Additionally, diabetics could experience a significant drop in bl

Other than ephedra, most of the above mentioned fat burners have not been linked to actual deaths. However, the possibility of ingesting a substance that could cause serious health risks up to, and including, death should give one pause. Are the possible dangers of these fat burners worth the few extra pounds that could be shed by the traditional-but safe-methods of healthy eating and exercise?
